Where It All Began

Every great idea starts with a blank page… and ours started with a whole lot of paper.

The Papery began in 1986 with a love for beautiful stationery, thoughtful details, and the belief that life is better with a good pen in hand (and maybe a notebook you don’t really need… but absolutely need).

Tucked away on Bank Street in Ottawa’s Glebe neighbourhood, The Papery became a little home for stationery lovers, artists, gift seekers, and anyone who knows that a handwritten note, a fresh notebook, or the perfect shade of ink can make an ordinary day feel a little more special.

Over the years, our shelves have grown into a collection of carefully chosen treasures — from journals and pens to art supplies, gifts, and creative finds that inspire ideas, spark imagination, and occasionally make you say, “I came in for one thing…”

After an unexpected plot twist in 2022, The Papery found its way back home to Bank Street, thanks to the incredible support of our community. A new chapter was written, and we happily picked up the pen again.

Nearly four decades later, we’re still here doing what we love: finding the little things that inspire big ideas.

Because every story deserves a beautiful page — and every desk deserves a little Papery magic.
